This Time of Year
Does it really matter if a city announces its annual "Holiday Tree Lighting"
or simply "Tree Lighting Celebration"? It seem that some folks have to have something to complain about all year
long. They actually said things like "Putting the Christ back in Christmas, why not start with calling it what it is
- A Christmas Tree." ~Fox News~ Now I know that cutting down a tree, bringing it in the house and decorating it has absolutely
nothing to do with the birth of Jesus. So why use that lame excuse for complaining about using inclusive language?
It would appear that our culture is still very much comprised of self-centerd, greedy, holier than thou, individuals. Are
we really? I don't think so. It is my experience that there are so many more people that just want to get along with each
other. They want the right to believe as they believe without taking away the right of someone else to do the same. Using
language that is inclusive takes nothing away and invites people from all religious traditions to be included in the "Tree
Lighting" event.
It also appears that these kind and compassionate people that I am saying make up the majority
(99%? maybe not quite) are being heard by government on the issues like what to call the tree they decorate at City Hall.
Yet when it comes to financial and economic issues, like health care, State and Federal Government only listen to the big-money
lobbyists who own the Senate and Congress.
So how do we elect senators and congress people that are immune to the
lobbyists and would actully pass a bill such as making lobbying a felony offense?
